Havana, June 5 (RHC) - The Cuban Film Institute (ICAIC) and the Culture Ministry have called to celebrate with a tweet the 60 years of ICAIC’s Latin American Newscast.

Both institutions have invited to signify the anniversary on June 6, through publications on Twitter, from 10:00 to 12:00 a.m., local time. According to an ICAIC statement, the purpose of the tweet is to honor this great school that was so successful for many filmmakers and viewers.

The newscasts have become unique historical documents, describing events, such as the growing bipolarization of the world, the wars of independence of  African colonies and popular uprisings. The ICAIC Newscast was produced every week from 1960 to 1990, and UNESCO included it in 2009 in its Memory of the World list.

The importance of the newscasts far exceeds the national scope, although even as an archive of the Cuban political process, they deserve to occupy a place in the memory of the world, as it is the most exhaustive documentary archive in the history of the Cuban Revolution, the statement concludes.
