Iberian American Culture Fiesta around the Corner in Holguin

Some 250 delegates, including renowned intellectuals from Cuba and another 19 nations of the region, have confirmed their attendance at the 19th Iberian-American Culture Fiesta, scheduled for October 24 through 30 in the eastern city of Holguin.

The festival ratifies the event’s summoning power, whose spaces for debate have contributed to strengthening the historical and cultural bonds among the countries of the geographic area.

As the main scene of theoretical and scientific debate, the 8th Iberian-American Thinking Congress will open its sessions with a panel dedicated to the emancipation processes of South America.

The festival is scheduled to hold the First World Folk Dance in Couple Encounter with a large participation of young people. The program also includes the Iberian-American Literature Colloquium, fine arts and audiovisual exhibitions and the traditional performance of several artistic solidarity brigades in various communities of the province. The largest delegations are said to come from Argentina, Colombia, Venezuela, Mexico and Peru.

The Iberian American Culture Fiesta also includes the three-week long International Handicraft Fair, Iberoarte, which began in Holguin on Friday with a representative sample of the creative universe of artisans from Latin American, Asian and European nations.

Sponsored by the House of Funds for Cultural Assets (BFC), an institution that is marking its 35th anniversary, this is the most important handicraft fair in the eastern Cuban city. The fair is held every two years, and this year’s exhibitors include artisans from Italy, Spain, Brazil Colombia, Ecuador, Panama, Costa Rica and Indonesia.
