Tambores de Bejucal Launches a New Album

50 son 50 (50 are 50) is the title of the most recent album by the famous Cuban drum band Tambores de Bejucal as a way of safeguarding Cuba’s popular music heritage.

Taped in Studio 102 of Cuba’s largest record label, EGREM, the CD is produced by Emilio Vega and includes soprano Bárbara Llanes as a special guest. Songs, such as Shubert’s Ave María; Zapateo ñáñigo or Mozambique No. 1, are merged through the sound and beat of drums. In the album the band keeps its special seal or characteristic sound of the bell and plow turned into a musical instrument.

The CD’s thirteen tracks represent the tradition of the region of Bejucal, an area famous for its popular fiestas, where the band comes from.
Tambores de Bejucal not only uses drums and percussion instruments, but also trombones, trumpets, cloves, the bell and the so called «reja» or plow turned into a musical instrument.

The band, which has cooperated in several CDs, including the 2001 Latin Grammy Awarded Album La Rumba Soy Yo, offers 50 son 50 to mark the music group’s 50th anniversary.
