Homage to Gabriel García Marquez in Havana

Sponsored by the Havana based cultural institution and the Colombian embassy in the Cuban capital, the tribute includes a panel with Conrado Zuluaga, one of the scholars who has more thoroughly studied the life and work of the author of One Hundred Years of Solitude.
The initiative is due to the significance of the Caribbean region, especially Cuba, to García Márquez, who has taught Colombians to rediscover themselves from a more Caribbean dimension.
The homage only consists of a series of panels that show the Caribbean presence in his work and an exhibition of illustrations of his books. The volume El cine según García Márquez (Cinema according to García Márquez), by critic Joel del Río, was also launched as part of the tribute, and four documentaries are also being screened about García Marquez as a script writer and journalist.
A dramatized reading of his only theater play Diatriba de amor contra un hombre sentado (Diatribe of Love against a Seated Man) by actress Laura García, the first actress who took the play to the stage in Colombia, will top the celebration.
