As part of the ongoing Voices of the world concerts and events in and around Havana, on Tuesday the 6th. of October at the Charlie Chaplin Cinema on 23 between 10 and 12 Streets at 9 pm there will be a screening of the classic Alfred Hitchcok movie Blackmail from 1929.
This silent black and white film will be accompanied in the theatre by the Havana Chamber Orchestra or La orchesta de camara de la Habana. The film has been made available by the Archive of the British Film Institute in the UK.
On Wednesday the 7th. of October in the Centre for HispanicAmerican Culture or El centro hispanoamericano de cultura on Malecon between Prado and Capdevila, at 3pm there will be a documentary screening entitled The enchanted island or La isla encatada a pastiche of operas by Handel, Vivaldi Rameau and other Baroque composers led by David Daniels.
At the same venue, the Centre for Hispanic American Culture, on Friday the 9th of October, again at 3 pm there will be a screening of Artaserse, an opera about Leonardo Vinci with Philippe Jaroussky and others.
And something real spcial for the kids. On Saturday and Sunday, the 11th and 12th. of October in the Karl Marx Theatre on 1st Avenue and 10th Street in Miramar there will be a 2 act show. At 5pm on Saturday and at 11am and 5 pm on Sunday the firs half of the show will be a performance of Prokovief’s Peter and the Wolf or Pedro y el lobo narrated by Marquitos Cañizares and Maria Carla Cremata. The second half of the show will star Elpidio Valdés and Los Van Van performing original music by Juan Formell.
