Bittersweet debut for Cuba in Pan-Am Beach Volley

Havana, July 25 (RHC) – The first day of competitions in the Pan-Am Games Lima 2019, has left Cuban Beach Volley teams with a bittersweety taste.

The men´s duo of Sergio Gonzalez and Luis Enrique Reyes were beaten by Uruguayans Mauricio Vieyto and Marco Tairus in three sets. The Cuban athletes started the match with the right foot, by winning the first set 21-15, but the Uruguayans performed a nice comeback and won two set in a row 16-21 and 8-15 to come up with a victory during the first day of competitions in Lima.

On the other hand, the women athletes avenged their male teammates by imposing their game against Paraguayans Patricia Caballero and Michelle Valiente 2 sets to 1. Cubans Maylen Delis and Leila Martinez, lost their first set 16-21, but they picked up their rhythm and won the second set 21-12 and the tie break 15-13 to achieve the first win of the Cuban delegation in this edition of the Pan-Am Games.
