World Chess Olympiad

The Cuban male chess team beat Israel 2.5-1.5 to add its 4th victory in the 41st edition of the World Chess Olympiad based in the city of Tromso, Norway.

Cuba had 2 victories, a tie and a defeat in the match against Israel in the 5th round of the competition.

Cuban GM Leinier Dominguez tied Boris Gelfand in the 1st table, but in the 2nd one, Cuban GM Lazaro Bruzon beat Maxim Rodstein and lately in the 3rd one, Ilia Smirin beat Cuban GM Yuniesky Quesada, but GM Isam Ortiz defined in favor of Cuba by beating Emil Sutovsky in the 4th table.

Azerbaidzhan and Serbia are in the top of this Olympiad, after they tied 2-2 in their particular match.

The maximum attraction was the match between Norwegian GM Magnus Carlsen, number 1 of the world ranking, against Armenian GM Levon Aronian, number 2 in the world, which ended draw, but Armenia won the match between teams.

Behind Azerbaidzhan and Serbia, there are Kazahstan, Bulgaria and Cuba, which will rival Kazahstan on Friday, after resting on Thursday. Owners of 8 points, Cubans occupy the 14th step and will rival Armenia this Friday.

Baseball
The Cuban baseball team fell tightly 2-3 facing the local team of the Colombian department of Bolivar, on the 1st date of the quadrangular tournament which takes place in Cartagena de Indias, to celebrate the centenary of the sport in Colombia, while in the other match of the day, Panama overcame 5-4 to Dominican Republic.

The game was a great pitchers' duel until the 6th, between Cuban Yosvani Torres and Colombian Javier Ortiz, who was taken out of New York Yankees of Major American leagues due to indiscipline. This Thursday will rival Cuba-Panama and Colombia's Bolivar team vs. Dominican Republic in the 2nd date.

And also about baseball, Cuba lost its undefeated pace on Wednesday at the World U-15 Baseball Cup based in the Mexican city of Mazatlán after losing to USA by 10-2, and today will face Chinese Taipei.

The loss corresponded to the Island's opener Adrián Morejón, who in 5 episodes allowed 5 runs, 4 hits and gave 4 tickets while the success went to the account of Hunter Greene, author of 7 strikeouts in 6 innings.
