Montevideo, December 16 (RHC)-- Venezuela’s foreign delegation arrived in Uruguay on Thursday to continue negotiations following an attempt by the so-called “Triple Alliance” of Argentina, Brazil and Paraguay to suspend it from the MERCOSUR trading bloc.

Venezuela’s Foreign Minister Delcy Rodriguez is expected to further expose how the Argentina, Brazil and Paraguay have been aggressively pursuing the suspension of Venezuela on a number of technical grounds.  Earlier in this month, the three countries claimed that Venezuela has been suspended from the bloc following months of continued pressure.  Venezuela rejected the move as illegal.

The "Triple Alliance" claims that Venezuela has failed comply with its conditions for its membership.  The countries had set a December 1st ultimatum for Venezuela to satisfy the conditions, triggering the move to suspend the South American nation when the deadline passed. Venezuela argued that it has satisfied more conditions for membership than its counterparts in the bloc.
