Tel Aviv, January 24 (RHC)-- Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says U.S. President Donald Trump has invited him to Washington next month.  The announcement was made in a statement released by the Israeli premier’s office following the first phone call between Netanyahu and Trump since his taking office on last week.

"President Trump invited Prime Minister Netanyahu to come to Washington to meet him in February," read the statement.  While describing the conversation as "very warm," it added that the exact date for the meeting would be set over the next few days.

"The Prime Minister expressed his desire to work closely with President Trump to forge a common vision to advance peace and security in the region."  The statement added that Iran’s nuclear deal, the situation with Palestine, and other issues were also discussed during the call.

During a cabinet meeting held earlier in the day, Netanyahu voiced his opposition to the nuclear agreement between Iran and the P5+1 group of countries.  Netanyahu said that stopping what he described as the “Iranian threat” and overturning the nuclear deal continues to be a key objective of Israel.

During his presidential campaign, Trump had promised to annul the deal which he referred to as a "disaster" and "the worst deal ever negotiated."
