Havana, February 19 (RHC) -– The fascist escalation against the constitutional government of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro was rejected Tuesday by officials and activists gathered in the Cuban capital of Havana.

During a solidarity meeting at the headquarters of the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP), the envoy of the Venezuelan embassy in Cuba, Edgar Gonzalez, condemned the opposition's attempts to destabilize the current Venezuelan administration, praising the people's strong response in the face of the escalating violence.

The diplomat also highlighted the proven role of the government of the United States and its representatives in Caracas in the recent unrest.

Also at the event in Havana, Argentinian writer Stella Calloni said the events in Venezuela are nothing but the epicenter of a greater U.S. imperialist war against Latin America's progressive front.

Other speakers, including, the president of the German Network of Solidarity with Cuba, Harry Grünberg, and the director of the Latin American and Caribbean Department of the ICAP, Roberto César Hamilton, also urged support for the government of Venezuela.
