Bogota, March 28 (RHC) -- Colombian army troops have killed one of the leaders of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) guerrilla group and captured another, the Defense Ministry said Thursday.

The operations, carried out jointly by the police and military forces, led to the death of "El Enano," or The Dwarf, head of the mobile FARC faction of Jacobo Arenas, and the capture of Carlos Andres Lombana, head of FARC Central Joint Command's Heroes of Marquetalia, a statement said

Four rifles, communication gear and explosive materials were also seized in the operations, according to authorities.

"El Enano," who fought for the rebel group for 12 years, was killed in a clash in El Tambo in southwest Cauca department, the ministry said.

Lombana, captured in Mesetas in central Meta department, was accused of leading attacks on National Army units in recent months.

Peace talks between FARC, Colombia's largest rebel group, and the government have been underway in Havana, Cuba, since November 2012 in an effort to end the five-decade fighting. No ceasefire has been reached yet.
