Panama City, October 21 (RHC) – Latin American countries plus Spain and Portugal recently convened for two days in Panama City for the 23rd Ibero-American Summit.

In the final declaration of the meeting, the heads of states and representatives of 22 member countries of the Organization of Ibero-American States unanimously condemned Washington´s 50-year-long blockade against Cuba.

The declaration also included a communiqué in support of the current peace negotiations between the Colombian government and the FARC guerrillas taking place in Havana.

Other statements affirmed support for Argentina in its dispute with the UK over the Malvinas Islands sovereignty; the use of Spanish language in multilateral forums;  the right to drinking water and the condemnation of terrorism.

Delegates also decided that instead of holding annual meetings they would get together every other year, starting after the 2014 summit in Veracruz, Mexico.
