Gaza City, July 28 (RHC)-- More than 1,000 Palestinians have so far been killed in Israel’s 21-day military offensive against the besieged Gaza Strip. On Monday, Palestinian medics told Press TV that nearly 1,050 people, including a large number of women and children, have lost their lives in the Israeli attacks since July 8th and more than 6,200 have been wounded.

The new figures come as an Israeli airstrike hit the Gaza Strip while Palestinians were preparing for the Eid al-Fitr prayers at the end of the holy fasting month of Ramadan.

Meanwhile, emergency services spokesman, Ashraf al-Qudra, said a four-year-old child identified as Samih Ijneid, was killed when a shell struck a house to the east of Jabaliya, adding that the shelling also left a second person dead in the same area. Earlier on Monday, another three people reportedly died from their injuries.

The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) said in a report released on Sunday that 226 children have so far been killed and 1,949 others injured in the Israeli onslaught. OCHA also said 215,000 Palestinians have been internally displaced by the ongoing Israeli offensive, with the UN agency for refugees saying 170,461 of them have taken refuge in 82 of its shelters. The rest are staying with relatives or friends.

Israel says 43 Israeli soldiers have been killed in the war, but Hamas sources say the number is closer to 100.
