President of Ecuador Kicks Off European Tour

Quito, October 26 (RHC) -- The president of Ecuador, Rafael Correa, will set out today on a working visit to Russia, Belarus and France aimed at strengthening bilateral relations with the three nations and build business and academic ties.

The Ecuadorian President leads a high-level government delegation made up of Foreign Minister Ricardo Patiño, defense minister, Maria Fernanda Espinoza, the National Secretary of Planning and Development, Pabel Muñoz, and the National Secretary of Higher Education, Science, Technology and Innovation, Rene Ramirez, among others.

In Russia, the first leg of the Eurpean tour, Correa will meet with his counterpart, Vladimir Putin, and also with Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev.

According to government sources, Ecuador has shown interest in advancing cooperation with Russia in the field of oil and gas exploration, including deepwater studies in the Gulf of Guayaquil (northwest).

Subsequently, the South American president will travel to Minsk, capital of Belarus, where he will discuss with his peer Alexander Lukaschenko the establishment of joint projects in the areas of technology and science.

In France, Correa will participates in the 37th session of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, UNESCO, in Paris.

The Ecuadorean president seeks to expand cultural cooperation with France, through an exchange program with French museums and cultural institutuions that will last three months.

Correa will return to Quito on November 9th.
