Tropical Storm Trudy Kills Six in Southern Mexico

Mexico City, October 20 (RHC-Xinhua) -- At least six people have been killed since Saturday when tropical storm Trudy battered Mexico, local Civil Protection authorities said Sunday.

Five people were killed in the city of Ometepec and one more in the indigenous town of Tlacoachistlahuaca, said Raul Miliani Sabido, a Civil Protection official in the southern state of Guerrero.

Some 2,000 people have been evacuated, and the state government has announced installation of seven temporary shelters, said Sabido.

A state of emergency has been declared in 36 municipalities of Guerrero state. In addition, emergency funds will be used to meet the most urgent requirements of the affected people.
