Caracas, February 10 (RHC-teleSUR) -- The president of Venezuelan business chamber, Fedecamaras, Jorge Roig, acknowledged on Sunday its participation in the coup against President Hugo Chavez in April 2002. The coup attempted to remove the president, democratically elected more than three years before.

In an interview with the private TV channel, Globovision, Roig described the coup attempt by Fedecamaras (Venezuelan Federation of Chambers of Commerce) as a “serious mistake.” He declared that Pedro Carmona Estanga, the then president of Fedecamaras who replaced Chavez for 48 hours, “confused his role” –- saying that, in his opinion, Fedecamaras is an institution meant to influence political power not to exercise it.
