Guatemala City, April 03 (teleSUR-RHC) Nobel Peace Prize winner Rigoberta Menchu has wading into the U.S. aggression against Venezuela, throwing her weight solidly behind the democratically elected government of President Nicolas Maduro.

The activist and philanthropist signed the petition by the campaign, “Venezuela is not a threat, we are hope,” criticizing the U.S. decree that the Latin American nation presents “an unusual and extraordinary threat to the defense of the United States.”

Other high-profile Guatemalans to come out in support of Maduro were political scientist Sandino Asturias and the esteemed journalist Miguel Angel Sandoval.

Venezuela has received widespread backing with millions signing a petition against the US action, regional bodies offering solidarity and international support.
