Washington, April 13 (RHC)-- Former U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton says she is running for the president of the United States in 2016, starting her bid to become the first woman to win the White House. "I'm running for president," Clinton said in a video on her campaign website on Sunday afternoon, officially launching a vigorous effort to secure the Democratic nomination for the 2016 elections, seven years after a bitter defeat to Barack Obama.
On a two-minute video, Hillary Clinton said: "Everyday Americans need a champion, and I want to be that champion, so you can do more than just get by. You can get ahead, and stay ahead."
Clinton is the third major politician to officially announce her White House bid. Republican Senators Ted Cruz and Rand Paul have recently announced to run for president.
Meanwhile, Marco Rubio, the first-term Republican senator from Florida, is expected to announce his U.S. presidential aspirations this week. Former Florida Governor Jeb Bush, the brother and son of former presidents, is also widely expected to roll out his campaign to capture the White House next year.
