Paris, April 21 (RHC)-- A French passenger train traveling from Paris to Belfort has slammed into a truck, leaving 32 people injured. A local government source told AFP that the number of dead in the crash was “around thirty with light injuries ... and two people with more serious injuries, the train driver and a passenger."

The railway company said the train was carrying 350 people when it collided with the truck which was carrying agricultural supplies. The truck had apparently stopped on the railroad tracks for an unknown reason.

The railway company added that all the automatic equipment and rail signals were in order and that investigation is underway to find the cause of the crash.

Train accidents are frequent in Europe. The European Railway Agency says there are dozens of serious train accidents every year, with a derailment or a collision reported every other day.
