Bogota, November 12 (RHC) -- Colombia's National Liberation Army (ELN) guerrillas have welcomed an agreement between the Colombian government and the country's largest rebel group FARC.

The ELN said in a statement on its website Monday that the agreement on post-conflict political participation is an early "Christmas gift" for Colombians.

The Colombian government and the FARC guerrillas struck a deal last week on the future involvement of the rebels in Colombia's political life. The signatories say the document will further strengthen democracy and open the doors for the creation of new political entities, including demilitarized rebel groups.

The National Liberation Army (ELN) is the second largest guerrilla group in Colombia after FARC, with 1,500 members according to government data. The ELN has also approached the government to initiate peace talks this year.
