Brazil Holds First Bidding for Renewable Energy Suppliers

Rio de Janeiro, November 13 (RHC) -- The Brazilian government plans to hold the country's first tender for suppliers of renewable energy.

According to the state-run Energy Research Company (EPE) the so-called A-3 energy tender next Monday aims to contract suppliers of energy. These include solar and wind farms, small hydroelectric plants, and thermal and biomass plants. The firm that puts in the lowest price for its energy will be eligible for a government contract.

The government has established a ceiling of 126 reals (54.8 U.S. dollars) per megawatt hour.

A total of 429 energy companies were approved by the EPE to participate in the tendering process, with the majority of them being wind energy suppliers.
