Buenos Aires, June 29 (teleSUR-RHC)-- The candidate of Argentina's ruling party Front for Victory (FPV), Rosana Bertone, was elected governor of Tierra del Fuego Province in Sunday’s runoff elections.

Bertone, whose candidacy was openly supported by President Cristina Fernandez, won the first round of voting against her rival Federico Sciurano from the conservative radical coalition UNIR-TDF on June 21. She received 49.75 percent of the vote and will govern with the majority of the legislative council, while her party also won the main three cities in the region.

This is the second victory for the ruling FPV in a province governance after Juan Manuel Urtubey was re-elected in Salta.

The electoral campaign in the South American country began in April and will conclude with the November presidential election.

The newly elected governor will succeed Fabiana Ríos, a progressive leader who stayed close to the national government. In 2011 Bertone ran for governor but she lost to the outgoing governor. On this occasion her candidacy was supported by the left-wing governor of Buenos Aires and presidential hopeful Daniel Scioli.
