Quito, July 11 (RHC-Xinhua), -- Ecuador is promoting a social inclusion policy for the country's vulnerable groups, which focuses on rights "that generate opportunities and power capabilities," a social development official said.

Coordinating Minister for Social Development, Cecilia Vaca, said this ahead of Saturday's World Population Day. The Day was established by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in 1989 to call attention to the urgency and importance of population issues.

During President Rafael Correa's eight years in office, Ecuador has taken various initiatives in favor of the poor and disabled.

The National Secretary for Planning and Development (Senplades) has registered a fall of 12.5 percentage points in consumption-based poverty, largely thanks to the redistribution policies focused on guaranteeing rights.

These policies include access to education and public health care. Investment in the social sector increased from 141 U.S. dollars per capita in 2007 to 575 in 2014, according to the minister.
