Havana, August 31 (RHC)-- The 40th cycle of peace talks held in Havana by the rebel FARC-EP, the Revolutionary Army Forces of Colombia-People's Army, and representatives of the Colombian government, concluded with positive results and progress. In a statement released Sunday, the rebel group said that despite the complexity of the discussions, important steps were taken towards achieving a final agreement.

The FARC-EP insisted on the need for the government to act in accordance with the unilateral truce declared by the rebels on July 20th and demanded rationality and consistency on the part of Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos.

Representatives of the FARC rebels urged national majorities to support decisively and without hesitation the peace process to end more than half a century of armed conflict in the South American nation.
