II Latin American Progressive Meeting Ends in Ecuador

Quito, September 30 (RHC)-- The II Latin American Progressive Meeting, ELAP 2015, ended Wednesday in Quito, the Ecuadorean capital. For three days, representatives of 60 Left and progressive organizations from 30 countries met in Quito.

On the last day of the event, Ecuadorean President Rafael Correa addressed the gathering. The topics of Latin American integration and solidarity with Palestine, Puerto Rico and the Malvinas Islands were also discussed on Wednesday during the final plenary session.

On Tuesday, the head of the Department of International Relations of the Communist Party of Cuba, José Ramón Balaguer, spoke about the re-establishment of diplomatic relations between Cuba and the United States and the process of normalization of ties between the two countries.

The Cuban Five –- Gerardo Hernandez, Ramon Labañino, Antonio Guerrero, Rene Gonzalez and Fernando Gonzalez –- along with Cuban Hero Orlando Cardoso, attended the II Latin American Progressive Meeting in Quito.
