Some 200 People Displaced by Flooding in Uruguay

Montevideo, Oct. 17 (PL-RHC) Nearly 200 people were displaced by floods in the northern departments of Artigas, Salto, Rivera and Tacuarembó.

Authorities reported the evacuation of 183 people and four domestic routes were suspended due to the waters in those areas bordering Brazil.

The National Emergency System (Sinae) reported the floods were caused by the overflowing of Uruguay River due to heavy rains in Brazil.

Some 3,000 houses suffered power cuts in the cities of Carmelo, Nueva Palmira, Cardona, San Jose Tomas Gomensoro, Bella Union, Cuaró and Dozer.
