Montevideo, November 6 (teleSUR)-- After an intense debate, a large majority of Uruguayan representatives rejected on Thursday a proposal to send a legislative delegation to Venezuela on December 6th.

Lawmakers from the governing coalition Broad Front, along with their counterparts from the Colorado Party, the Independent Party, and Popular Union, rejected a proposal issued by lawmaker Jaime Trobo, from the conservative National Party, to send a delegation to monitor Venezuela’s parliamentary elections.

The Broad Front's lawmakers argued this initiative would amount to “interference” in Venezuela’s domestic affairs. Lawmakers from the Colorado Party added the Uruguayan Congress had not received a formal invitation to monitor the elections.

Many Latin American electoral observers are already set to monitor the Venezuelan elections, including observers from Uruguay, a member of the Union of South American Nations, or UNASUR. Most of them are expected to arrive in Venezuela next week.

Unlike any other country, Venezuela carries out citizen audits at more than half of its polling stations.
