Montevideo, November 9 (PL-RHC)-- Montevideo Archbishop Daniel Sturla said the Holy See is collaborating to clarify the situation of the people who disappeared during the civic-military dictatorships in Uruguay.

In an interview published by La Republica newspaper, the Cardinal stated the Catholic Church had confirmed its willingness to participate, support and receive possible news.

Cardinal Sturla said: “It has been an important support. According to what members of the organization Relatives (of missing people) have said, they have answers from people who contributed some data, something that is really important.”

Sturla, who was designated two years ago by Pope Francis as the new Archbishop of Montevideo, said the Holy See wants collaboration to clarify this situation.

The Cardinal said: "First of all, we have to see if we have something in our archives that could contribute with more elements."
