Paris, November 30 (RHC)-- A major rally was canceled in the French capital after authorities banned public protests in the aftermath of the Paris attacks several weeks ago.

Despite prohibitions, tens of thousands of people formed a human chain stretching down the sidewalk for blocks. After the human chain action ended, thousands of Parisians and international activists defied the French ban on protests and tried to march through the downtown streets.

Riot police met the protesters with tear gas, sound bombs and pepper spray. Media reports say that more than 200 protesters were arrested.
