Ramallah, December 17 (RHC)-- Israeli forces have shot dead a young Palestinian man in the occupied West Bank city of Nablus over an alleged stabbing attempt. The shooting came shortly after an Israeli human rights group accused the regime of "summary execution" of the Palestinians.

Israeli forces on Thursday opened fire at the Palestinian man at the Hawwara checkpoint in Nabuls, fatally wounding him, the military said in a statement. The Israeli forces “spotted a suspect” in the area and approached to question him but he ran towards the troops who responded with gunfire.

According to local reports, the Palestinian was initially wounded but died of his injuries after Israeli forces stopped an ambulance from reaching the scene of the shooting. The incident came only a day after Israeli human rights group B’Tselem slammed Israeli military for using “excessive and unwarranted” force and “lethal gunfire” against Palestinian protesters.

The group said the behavior was "tantamount to the summary execution of assailants or suspected assailants.” In a number of cases, Israeli forces did not stop shooting at Palestinians even when they no longer posed any threat and also denied medical care to Palestinians who were shot at the scenes, the group said.

Tensions in the occupied territories have escalated since the Israeli regime’s imposition of restrictions in August on the entry of Palestinian worshipers into the al-Aqsa Mosque compound in East Jerusalem.

Palestinians are angry at increasing violence by Israeli settlers at the al-Aqsa Mosque compound and their attacks on Palestinian properties, saying the Tel Aviv regime seeks to change the status quo of the compound.
