Separately, an improvised explosive device detonated close to a brick making workshop in another neighborhood of southeast Baghdad, leaving two civilians dead and eight others injured. One civilian was also killed and six others sustained injuries on Wednesday when an explosion ripped through a commercial district in the capital's northern neighborhood of al-Hurriya.

Elsewhere, in the town of Khalis, which lies in Iraq’s eastern province of Diyala and 80 kilometers northeast of Baghdad, two people were killed and nine others injured when two cars rigged with explosives went off in quick succession.
