Guatemala, January 19 (RHC-PL) -- Guatemala will host a regional meeting on Tuesday to discuss the issue of Cuban migrants in Costa Rica and assess the results of the transfer of the first group of migrants to the United States, a Foreign Ministry source has reported.

Following up a meeting held in December that led to a pilot plan to define the situation of Cuban migrants in Costa Rica, the gathering in Guatemala City will be attended by heads of immigration of the countries involved in that strategy.

Participants will assess the transfer of the Cubans, by air from Costa Rica to El Salvador and then by land from Guatemala to Mexico, which began on January 12th.

Participants will discuss details and define the dates of upcoming transfers, according to financial possibilities of those based in the 38 camps set up since November 15 by the Costa Rican Government near the border with Nicaragua.
