Denver, December 14 (RHC)-- At least two students have been wounded in a shooting incident at Arapahoe High School in Centennial, Colorado. Police in the U.S. city said that the shooter is dead from what authorities believe is a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The incident forced hundreds of students to run away in terror and many others to huddle in the corners of locked-down classrooms. The school is part of Littleton Public Schools and has more than 2,000 students. Some schools in the area were also put into a lockdown mode.

Today, Saturday, is the one-year anniversary of the Sandy Hook school shooting in Newtown, Connecticut. On December 14th last year, 20 first-graders were shot and killed at Sandy Hook Elementary School.

Over the past year, one school shooting has taken place in the United States every two weeks on average.

According to an investigation by the Daily Beast, at least 24 school shootings have killed at least 17 people since Newtown. The shootings occurred on school campuses when students were present. Shootings that took place after hours on school grounds were not included.
