Havana, August 10 (RHC)-- Members of the Network of Intellectuals, Artists and Social Movements in Defense of Humanity sent a congratulatory message to Cuban Revolution Fidel Castro on his 90th birthday, on August 13th.

In the message, the Network members express their profound gratitude to Fidel for everything that he has done over the past several decades in defense of 'the peoples of Our America and of the rest of the world.'

Signed by national representatives of the Network in Argentina, Cuba, Bolivia, Brazil, Mexico, Italy, the United States, Venezuela, and the Caribbean, the message has been well received and circulated by various regional and international media outlets.

Signatories of the congratulatory message of Fidel's birthday include also the Association of Cuban Writers and Artists (UNEAC), the Hermanos Saíz Cultural Association, Vice President of the Plurinational State of Bolivia Álvaro García Linera, Argentine Nobel Peace Prize laureate Adolfo Pérez Esquivel, Brazilian writer and theologian Frei Betto and Cuban poet Miguel Barnet.

In the message, the signatories highlight that Fidel 'has been a permanent source of inspiration,' specially in recurring moments when the advances of progressive governments and forces in the region were halted due to the ruthless offensive of imperialist reactionary forces and their allies.
