Guantánamo, January 23 (RHC)-- A total of 29,600 family homes have been repaired in eastern Guatánamo province.

The figure represents 70% of the more than 42,300 homes damaged by Hurricane Matthew. The category-four storm hit the eastern tip of Cuba last October, causing considerable damage in the municipalities of Baracoa, Imias, San Antonio and Maisi.

Addressing the Provincial Assembly of People’s Power, deputy Nancy Acosta Hernández said that recovery works continue in the municipalities affected by the powerful storm. She praised the extensive aid and support received from other Cuban provinces, international organizations and countries, such as Venezuela.

Denny Legrá Azahares, President of the Provincial Defense Council, noted that 2017 will be a year of hard work for the people of Guantánamo, who are recovering from the damage caused by Hurricane Matthew, while at the same time working to meet the province’s economic plan.
