Cuban President Meets with UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon

Havana, January 28 (RHC) -– Cuban President Raul Castro met on Monday with the Secretary General of the United Nations, Ban Ki-moon, who pays an official visit to Cuba in the framework of the CELAC Summit underway in Havana.

According to the official report, both leaders exchanged views on various international issues, while Ban Ki-moon praised Cuba's management as pro-tempore president of CELAC.

The Cuban president, for his part, thanked the UN secretary general for his visit and reiterated Cuba's commitment to multi-lateralism, the UN Charter and international law.

Earlier, Ban had met with Cuban Vice President Marino Murillo, the head of the island's ongoing reform of its socialist economic model. During the meeting, Murillo briefed the UN chief on the progress of these transformations, highlighting the UN's support in the implementation of the new economic strategy.

Meanwhile, the UN chief congratulated the Cuban government on the positive changes in the economic, social and human rights spheres, and expressed his willingness to cooperate with Cuba.
