Havana, August 23 (RHC)-- Cubans across the island are commemorating the 57th anniversary of the foundation of the Federation of Cuban Women, the FMC. A statement released by the FMC on Tuesday said that "women are taking on the challenges of a new era with the dedication of the inheritors of the Cuban people's best traditions of dignity and courage, especially the many women who with their example enriched the nation's history."

The Federation of Cuban Women also recognized those who have made an "extraordinary contribution to progress for women, social justice, and the promotion of gender equality in our country."

Conscious of the importance of their mission and their commitment to preserving the gains of the Revolution, today, in Camagüey, Cuban women will celebrate the founding of their organization with the national event.

Yesterday, August 22nd, in Camagüey, the provincial secretary of the FMC in the province, Anielka Fernández del Monte, was awarded a replica of the provincial shield from Teresa Amarelle Boué, Political Bureau member and FMC general secretary, and Marta Ayala Ávila.

Isabel González Cárdenas, president of the Provincial Assembly of People's Power, attended the ceremony and commented on the FMC's work in communities in conjunction with Public Health and the leading role of women in economic, social, administrative, and political work in Camagüey

Anielka Fernández del Monte expressed her gratitude for the recognition and reaffirmed that this is the time for women to reinforce the organization's work, especially at the community level, saying: "That is where the achievements seen today in Camagüey begin."
