New York, September 14 (RHC) – Although rejected by the international community, the US blockade against Cuba remains in force, causing untold damage, a statement by the island's UN Mission in New York said.

The Cuban statement notes that while under President Barack Obama, measures were put in place to relax elements of the US economic circle against Cuba, significant obstacles for their implementation persisted and key restrictions were maintained, as well as the entanglement of laws that keep the blockade in force.

US citizens are still prohibited from traveling freely to Cuba, and the sale to Cuba of US products and services other than food and a few others remains prohibited.

The import of Cuban goods and services to the United States is also limited, including world class products like cigars, rum, nickel, pharmaceuticals and medical and educational services.

The Cuba UN Mission statement says the island continues to be banned from using the dollar in its international transactions and financial institutions are not allowed to open correspondent accounts in US banks, preventing the establishment of direct banking relations between the US and Cuba and rendering the few existing commercial transactions more costly.

The blockade of the United States against Cuba must cease immediately and unconditionally, charges the UN Mission, noting that eliminating it would be in line with what the international community demands and in accordance with the Charter of the United Nations and International Law.
