International Congress Marks 80th Anniversary of Cuba's Tropical Medicine Institute

Havana, December 7 (RHC)-- Cuban experts debated Thursday in Havana the country's advances in the fight against poliomyelitis, and the more than 20 years of collaboration between the Caribbean state and the World Health Organization (WHO) to eradicate this and other diseases.
Thursday's debate was in the framework of a congress, marking the 80th Anniversary of the Pedro Kourí Institute of Tropical Medicine. The event is focusing on communicable diseases, treatment and cure.
Other issues under discussion include tuberculosis and the role of advanced molecular diagnostic techniques in the detection of emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases.
