Cuba identifies over nine thousand mineral deposits island wide

Havana, Feb. 28 (RHC)-- Cuba's Geology and Mining Services has identified more than nine thousand mineral deposits across the country.

In statements to the press, Dr. in Sciences Enrique Castellanos Abella, Geology Director with the country's Ministry of Energy and Mining (Minem), said that 89 projects are currently in different stages of implementation.

Among minerals with good prospects on the island, the expert pointed to cobalt, silica, limestone, marble, nickel and gold among others.

The University of Pinar del Río, Cuba's Mining Institute and the José Antonio Echevarría University in Havana are among Cuban institutions that participated in the study to assess Cuba's mineral resources.
