Havana, April 21 (RHC)-- Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro is in Cuba, where he arrived Friday night to personally congratulate his Cuban counterpart Miguel Díaz-Canel.

During his stay, the Bolivarian leader is holding talks with several Cuban officials, including Díaz-Canel.  He paid tribute to Cuban National Hero José Martí at Havana's Revolution Square.

Maduro was one of the first world leaders to congratulate Díaz-Canel on his election as the new Cuban head of state.

Speaking on behalf of the Venezuelan government and people, he extended congratulations to the entire Cuban people for -- in his own words -- the successful, impeccable elections, calling them a truly democratic, participatory electoral process that ended with the election of the country's new legislative and executive authorities.

Other regional and world leaders have also said they will come to Cuba to personally congratulate the new leaders, among them Bolivian President Evo Morales.
