Cuba Backs Social Participation in New Agenda for Development

United Nations, March 7 (RHC)-- Cuba defended at the United Nations General Assembly the large participation of women, youth, senior citizens, the physically challenged and other sectors of civil society in the drawing up of a Post-2015 Sustainable Development Agenda.

The third secretary of the island's permanent mission at the United Nations, Daylenis Moreno, supported the need to build a development frame based on an integral and fair vision that fosters inclusive growth of different social actors, with environmental sustainability.

The diplomat spoke during a debate held Thursday on the contribution by women, youths and civil society to sustainable development, one of the six events on the agenda of the General Assembly´s 68th Session aimed at drawing up the Post-2015 agenda to replace the Millennium Development Goals set 14 years ago.

The Cuban representative said that gender equality and the empowering of women are pending issues for the international community.
