Paris, January 4 (RHC)-- UNESCO -- The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization -- has sent a message of congratulations to Cuba’s permanent delegation to the body, on the 60th anniversary of the triumph of the Revolution, diplomatic sources reported Friday.

The letter expresses the organization's hope to continue strengthening the existing close ties between the two parties; as well as its gratitude for Cuba’s "active role in the promotion of peace and development in all UNESCO programs."

Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel visited the UN in November last year, during which he met with UNESCO Director General Audrey Azoulay.  The two identified common priorities and reaffirmed their commitment to continue working together.

According to a statement by the Cuban Embassy, this year the island is set to renew its commitments and political will to continue strengthening its relationship with UNESCO, amid celebrations marking the 500th anniversary of the founding of Havana.
