Havana, May 25 (RHC)-- In an effort to improve the effectiveness of agricultural cooperatives, the Ministry of Agriculture has approved new legal standards for their operations under Decree-Law 365, published on Friday in Official Gazette ·# 37.

The new norms will impact the functioning of the cooperative of agricultural production, those of credit and services and the basic units of cooperative production (UBPC for their acronym in Spanish)

The director of Cooperative Development of the Ministry, Ricardo Monzón, informed that these measures will become effective 6 months, after their publication.

He stated that the regulations main objective is to eliminate obstacles to agricultural production and to reorder the existing legal dispersion on agricultural cooperatives.

In Cuba 78% of arable land is controlled by the State. Of that area, the agro cooperatives manage almost 70%.

Reportedly, the new regulations will aid in the improvement of technical assistance processes, the application of scientific and technological innovations, encourage the process of land distribution, and the control of its rational and efficient use, among other benefits.
