Havana, June 10 (RHC)— The Province of Granma, in Eastern Cuba, will host the main celebration for the 26 of July, the National Rebellion Day.

The announcement was made over the week-end by the Political Bureau of the Cuban Communist Party.

The holiday, marked every year, celebrates the anniversary of the assault launched in 1953 by a group of youths led by Fidel Castro against the Moncada Barracks in Santiago de Cuba, in an attempt to overthrow the Batista Dictatorship.

Although the purpose of the event was not met, it opened a new stage in Cuba’s national liberation struggle which concluded with the triumph of the Revolution on January 1st, 1959.

After the announcement was made, Cuban president Miguel Diaz-Canel congratulated the people from Granma for their achievements that entitled the province to host the celebration.
