Havana, Apr 4, (RHC), – The information released in an Associated Press article on Thursday confirms the reiterated denunciations made by the Cuban government, reads a statement by the Cuban Foreign Ministry referring to the revelations about recent plans by Washington to destabilize the island.

In the statement the General Director for the United States at the Foreign Ministry says that the issue demonstrated that the government of the United States has not given up on its subversive plans against Cuba, which seek to create destabilizing situations in the country in order to provoke changes in our political order, to which the government of the United States continues to dedicate budgets of millions of dollars every year."

The government of the United States must respect International Law and the aims and principles of the UN Charter, and therefore, they must stop their illegal and convert actions against Cuba, which are rejected by the Cuban people and world public opinion, the statement reads.

An investigation by the Associated Press revealed that the US government had secretly funded a social media network program to instigate political unrest in Cuba.

The covert program consisted of a text-messaging service that could be used to provide subversive information and organize anti-government political rallies.

In an attempt by Barack Obama’s administration to downplay the nature of the ZunZuneo social-media website, State Department spokeswoman Marie Harf on Thursday told reporters the program was neither "secret" nor "covert" under the U.S. government's definitions of those terms, calling the subversive scheme a "democracy promotion" program.
