Havana, July 4 (RHC)-- The Colombian guerrilla group National Liberation Army (ELN) says its willing to resume peace negotiations with the government.

Representatives of the group said in a press conference in Havana Wednesday that the ELN has sent a document to the UN Security Council, the Vatican and the International Committee of the Red Cross, expressing its wish, and summarizing the agreements negotiated between the guerrillas and the government during the dialogue phase

The document, released to the press, says that the ELN duty is to continue searching for the political solution to the conflict.

The head of the ELN delegation, Pablo Beltrán, reiterated the ELN wish for a new bilateral cease fire for the creation of a better climate for the resumption of the talks.

A dozen members - between 12 and 15, according to the rebels - of the delegation of the National Liberation Army have been in Havana since May 2018.  Cuba was chosen to host the talks that began in 2017 in Ecuador under then-president Juan Manuel Santos.

But after Ivan Duque becoming president in August 2018, the negotiations were frozen and then deactivated in January after an attack on a police academy in Bogota that was attributed to the ELN.
