Havana, July 4 (RHC)-- The measures announced by the Cuban government to advance the social and economic development of the island are taking place despite the intensification of the blockade imposed by the United States for almost six decades.

President Miguel Diaz-Canel made this assertion in the Round Table TV program on Wednesday, the second devoted this week to offer details and comments on feedback received from the general population on the recently announced economic package.

Besides the important increase in wages for the budgeted sector, Diaz-Canel emphasized that other measures also very imperative are enhancing domestic production, diversifying and increasing exports, replacing imports, strengthening state enterprise and advancing food sovereignty.

The president urged to work for those things that do good to the country, alluding to the measures announced to boost economic development and the welfare of the population.

The head of state called for a battle against behaviors that run against the purpose of the measures, and praised citizens’ feedback denouncing practices in Havana of price increases of products.

Economy and Finance Minister, Alejandro Gil Fernandez, reiterated the need of finding alternatives that increase people´s purchasing power without increasing prices, and without causing shortages.

He noted that either a state or a private entity can make more profits by selling more products than by selling them at higher prices.

During the program, participants reiterated that the battle against price hikes will have to be fought by everybody and that  those who place irresponsible and opportunistic prices on products to make a profit will be confronted.

President Diaz Canel said that all doubts, concerns and proposals received from the population will be addressed and valued, and he thanked the words of encouragement given to the government.

He said that for the Council of Ministers those words of praise are a reason to multiply energies and commitment to the Revolution, the Party and the Cuban people.
