Havana, July 25 (RHC)-- This Friday, July 26, National Rebellion Day in Cuba will be commemorated in the city of Bayamo, in the eastern province of Granma. The day pays tribute to the assault on the Moncada and Carlos Manuel de Céspedes barracks led by Fidel Castro on that day in 1953.

The simultaneous assaults that took place in the cities of Santiago de Cuba and Bayamo triggered off the events that culminated with the triumph of the Cuban revolution on January 1st 1959.

The national rally to commemorate the 66th anniversary of those actions is scheduled to start at 06:30 in the morning on Friday at la Plaza de la Patria (The Homeland Square) and  it will be aired by national television and radio stations and by the international airwaves of Radio Havana Cuba.

Congratulatory messages from various parts of the world have begun to reach the island on the occasion, according to the Foreign Ministry website, Cubaminrex.

The messages include those from the President of the People's Democratic Republic of Algeria, Aldelkader Bensalah, and the President of the Republic of Croatia, Kolinda Grabar-Kitarovic.
