Havana October 9 (RHC)-- Army General Raúl Castro Ruz, first secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba, and Cuban president, Miguel Díaz-Canel, sent floral offerings to the monument to Carlos Manuel de Céspedes, in the Plaza de Armas (Square of Arms) in Old Havana.

On the occasion of October 10, celebration of the 151st anniversary of the beginning of the wars of independence by the Father of the Homeland, the event took place at the emblematic site of Old Havana, and it was attended by Luis Antonio Torres Iríbar, Communist party leader in the capital; Yoel Cordoví, director of the Cuban History Institute; and Félix Julio Alfonso, deputy director of the Office of the City Historian.

As part of the tribute participants in the ceremony toured the hall dedicated to the 10-year war in the Palace of the General Captains (now the City Museum), which houses personal objects of the initiator of the 1868 feat that accompanied him during the hard days of the emancipatory struggle.
